Trimline, experts in creating interiors for the marine sector, applied their expertise and impeccable attention to detail to the refurbishment of the public areas of the residential ship, The World.

Over a 28-day dry-dock period in Cadiz, Spain, skilled tradespeople and marine interior specialists completed the ambitious refurbishment before The World continued on her 2016 journey across Europe and the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Indonesia and ending the year in Sydney, Australia.

With 165 Residences ranging from studios to a spacious five-bedroom penthouse, The World is the largest privately owned residential ship in the world. Many Residents live aboard the ship for extended periods throughout the year, with some living full time on the ship, so the refurbishment needed to create a sanctuary for the families who call the vessel home. Trimline’s experience in the cruise and superyacht markets, coupled with their innovative approach, made them the perfect partner to design and implement this refurbishment.

The refurbishment transformed several public areas of the ship elevating the already high quality design standards to the superior levels for which the marine interior specialists are well known:

– Restaurant. The Marina restaurant was given an innovative redesign and refurbishment with new retractable floor-to-ceiling glass windows, private dining room, bar/lounge area, chef’s presentation table, specially curated contemporary artwork and a custom wine vault to showcase 1,500 bottles. The furnishings use natural fabrics with a serene, nautical colour palette of blues, greys and metallic tones.

– Theatre. New comfortable, ergonomically designed seats were installed in the Colosseo theatre entertainment and meeting space, together with plush thick pile- carpets, solid wood parquet flooring and velvet drapes. Both sound and lighting capabilities were upgraded.

– Deck 12 aft. This outdoor public area was redesigned and elevated for better views, and four new Bali beds, together with retractable awnings and privacy walls, were added.

– Spa and wellness centre. The World Spa & Wellness Centre was refreshed with new pedicure and manicure stations, a barber shop and Pilates studio. The physiotherapy room was updated to provide enhanced therapeutic rehabilitation services to Residents.

Andrew Richards, Trimline’s CEO remarked “Everyone at Trimline is extremely proud to have delivered such a striking refurbishment to The World. Our skilled teams came into their own on this technically challenging transformation.
