MV Werften, located in Wismar on the coast of the Baltic Sea in the north of Germany has contracted AXIKO to supply HVAC systems for four Global-class cruise ships (including two options) intended for the Chinese market, for the ship owner Star Cruises.

AXIKO, a consortium established by ENGIE/Axima and Koja Oy Marine, received the HVAC Turnkey contract, which will employ more than 300 people in France, Germany and Finland between the start of the design phase in 2017 and the delivery of the second cruise ship in 2022.

Both parties have agreed not to disclose the contract value.

The MV Werften order incorporates two cruise ships and two options with a comparable size to the Harmony of the Seas: 204,000 gross tons and approximately 2,500 cabins, a capacity which enables them to welcome the largest number of passengers in the world.

A unique consortium

ENGIE/Axima and the Finnish HVAC systems supplier Koja Oy Marine have established a unique consortium termed AXIKO. The two partners have already collaborated successfully on similarly sized cruise ships. This consortium combines ENGIE/Axima’s experience on such large turnkey projects and Koja Marine’s advanced HVAC systems resulting in common design and unbeatable technical performance.

Koja Marine’s part includes the HVAC system, equipment and design. ENGIE/Axima is responsible for the HVAC installations, and for the accommodation, machinery room, chillers, and chilled and heated water production. Special attention has been paid to the environmental dimension of the project through some very challenging performance commitments and the selection of highly energy efficient equipment.

“This new implementation in Northern Europe confirms the international development of the Marine department already present in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, and Brazil. It also confirms our expertise on very large cruise ships,” states Le Berre.
The design, installation and commissioning will be realized by the two partners. AXIKO will be responsible for the assembly and the pre-commissioning of the equipment, as well as the overall project management.

The design and engineering has already started and the installation work is expected to take off at the beginning of 2018 for the delivery of the first cruise ship in 2021 and the second in 2022.
