Fincantieri, the Italian shipbuilding group, and the Italian energy group Eni, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the cooperation in the field of Research & Development, including possible studies in the field of energy systems, with particular reference to the natural gas transport chain, Fincantieri said in a statement.

The understandings, with a highly innovative content and of particular industrial importance, are intended to study projects for sustainable development and support the use of gas for transport.

“In fact, they envisage potential partnerships ranging from the LNG (liquefied natural gas) chain and to the natural gas transport chain, from to the exploitation of gas resources, to floating platform projects for offshore production and the evaluation of energy projects with a low environmental impact,” the shipbuilder said.

Within the agreement, Fincantieri will be able to leverage on its expertise and technologies in order to collaborate with Eni both in Italy and abroad, it added.
