The three newbuildings of Virgin Voyages will be a fairly close match in terms of capacity and gross tonnage with Cunard Line’s recently ordered fourth ship.
The Virgin Voyages’ ships will have “over 1,400 guest cabins that can host more than 2,700 passengers,” according to Fincantieri, the builder of the trio. The gross tonnage of the ships is given as 110,000.
Meanwhile, Cunard Line is due to receive a 113,000 gross ton newbuiding, also from Fincantieri, in 2022. The ship, which will be based on the Koningsdam of sister company Holland America Line’s Pinnacle class, will have accommodation for 3,000 passengers.
Virgin Voyages, which is based in Miami and was set up by Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group that is located in London together with US and Gulf investors, will receive the trio at one year intervals, starting in 2020.
