Ege Port Kuşadası closes the 2025 cruise season as Türkiye’s leading cruise port

Ege Port Kuşadası, operated by Global Ports Holding, the world’s largest cruise port operator, has closed the 2025 cruise season with record-breaking figures in both cruise calls and passenger traffic, reinforcing its leadership position in Türkiye.

As of 29 December 2025, Ege Port Kuşadası has hosted a total of 617 cruise calls, welcoming 995.303 cruise passengers, the highest figures recorded in the port’s history. During the same period, the port also has handled 1,016 ferry calls and 187,077 ferry passengers. With these results, Ege Port Kuşadası achieved its highest-ever combined number of ship calls and passenger movements. The new cruise season is set to begin with the arrival of the first vessel on 1 January 2026.

As the first busiest cruise port in Türkiye and fourth busiest cruise port in the Eastern Mediterranean in terms of cruise ship calls and passenger volumes, Ege Port Kuşadası continues to attract strong demand throughout the year from cruise lines operating across different market segments. In the 2025 season, nine cruise ships included Kuşadası in their itineraries for the first time: Resilient Lady, Costa Fortuna, Elysium, National Geographic Orion, Spirit of Adventure, Viking Vela, Viking Vesta, Aroya and Norwegian Pearl. The port’s strategic location provides direct access to major cultural and historical attractions in the region, particularly the ancient city of Ephesus, further strengthening its appeal as a key destination.

Aziz Güngör, Eastern Mediterranean Regional Director of Global Ports Holding and General Manager of Ege Port Kuşadası, stated that the results reflect a long-term vision supported by strong operational discipline and close cooperation with stakeholders. “As Türkiye’s most preferred cruise port, Ege Port Kuşadası continues to invest in infrastructure capable of managing growing ship and passenger volumes efficiently and safely, while further positioning Kuşadası as a must-call destination for cruise lines operating in the Eastern Mediterranean.”

In parallel with its growing operational scale, Ege Port Kuşadası is also advancing its sustainability agenda through investments in renewable energy. A solar power plant installed on the roof of the passenger terminal became operational in June 2025, with an annual electricity generation target of approximately 312,552 kWh. Through this investment, the entire energy demand of the passenger terminal and operational areas is met from renewable sources. The project includes the installation of 426 solar panels and five inverters and represents an important step in the port’s transition toward cleaner energy use.

Alongside its strong operational performance throughout the 2025 season, Ege Port Kuşadası is also known for its rich destination experiences. A diverse portfolio of shore excursions and alternative activities, including extended visits and evening dinner experiences at the ancient city of Ephesus as well as cultural, gastronomic and coastal experiences across the region, the destination enables cruise guests to tailor their time ashore according to different interests and travel styles.

Port Everglades wraps extraordinary cruise season

Broward County's Port Everglades has closed out an extraordinary two-week stretch that saw three new cruise ships complete their namings, Plaques-and-Keys ceremonies and maiden voyages from one of the world's busiest homeports. The rapid succession of celebrations underscores Port Everglades' growing role as a preferred stage for major cruise industry moments.

Each naming delivered a high-profile spectacle, featuring celebrity godparents, precision drone shows and curated onboard celebrations that captivated guests and industry-watchers alike.

Princess Cruises' Star Princess began the series with her naming on November 6, followed by her Plaques-and-Keys ceremony on November 7. Disney Cruise Line's Disney Destiny held her christening on November 10 and a Plaques-and-Keys presentation on November 19. Celebrity Cruises rounded out the lineup with the November 16 naming of Celebrity Xcel and a Plaques-and-Keys event on November 9.

The port saluted each ship's maiden voyage with traditional tug sprays, delighting sailing guests and local residents who hosted sail-away gatherings along the port's channel.

"These milestones highlight the confidence that the world's leading cruise brands continue to place in Port Everglades," said Port Everglades CEO and Port Director Joseph Morris. "To welcome three next-generation ships within days of one another speaks to our operational agility, our collaborative partnerships and the strength of the cruise industry. We thank all of our partners for making these milestones successful."

Fueling sustainability

The three vessels bring notable advancements to the market, and all operate on alternative, environmentally sustainable fuels such as Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) and green methanol, which reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Celebrity Xcel, carrying 3,250 guests, is Celebrity's fifth Edge-class ship – all of which were named at Port Everglades. Disney's 2,500-passenger Disney Destiny introduces a heroes-and-villains theme and will sail year-round from Disney's second Florida homeport. Princess Cruises' Star Princess, the second Sphere-class ship, carries 4,300 guests and echoes the sophisticated design of her sister ship, Sun Princess.

With a shared vision of sustainability, the port is partnering with the cruise lines to support future fuels and shore power. Shore power allows cruise ships to use electricity instead of burning fuel while docked. Broward County is currently in contract negotiations with AECOM to provide engineering design services for shore power electrification, which is expected to occur in phases for the port's eight cruise terminals.

Fair winds ahead

The 2026 cruise season, officially underway as of October, will see the port host nine cruise lines, 40 cruise ships and one fast ferry. Next summer, the port will homeport Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas and Jewel of the Seas, Celebrity's Celebrity Reflection, Disney's Disney Destiny, Princess Cruises' Regal Princess and Baleària Caribbean's fast ferry Jaume II, strengthening Port Everglades' year-round operations.

Looking ahead, Royal Caribbean's third Icon-class vessel, Legend of the Seas, will homeport at Port Everglades beginning in November 2026. With a capacity for more than 5,600 guests, it will be the largest cruise ship ever to sail from the port.

The Port of Philadelphia announces new PhilaPort Cruise Terminal

PhilaPort yesterday announced the start of construction of the future PhilaPort Cruise Terminal, a 16-acre site adjacent to Philadelphia International Airport that will serve as the region’s newest gateway for cruise travel beginning in April 2026.

The terminal’s inaugural season will begin during a historic year. As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2026, Philadelphia will host a wide range of nationally significant events and tourism experiences. Launching Norwegian Cruise Line’s seasonal sailings to Bermuda and other destinations during this commemorative year will give travelers a new way to experience both the city’s deep maritime heritage and its vibrant modern culture.

“This is a unique opportunity, and we are fortunate to have two outstanding partners in Energy Transfer and Norwegian Cruise Line, both of whom see tremendous potential in Philadelphia,” said Jeff Theobald, PhilaPort Executive Director and CEO. “It took a lot of hard work to bring this agreement together, and Energy Transfer and Norwegian Cruise Line were committed every step of the way. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but we are ready and excited to welcome cruise passengers this spring.”

The new terminal is the result of coordinated efforts and partnership among PhilaPort, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, and Energy Transfer Marketing and Terminals (ETMT). PhilaPort and ETMT have finalized the agreement of sale of property for the site in Tinicum Township, formerly known as the Hog Island Dock Terminal Facility, clearing the way for its redevelopment. PhilaPort will manage all marine-side improvements, while NCLH will lead the land-side construction and development of the terminal. Under a seven-year berthing agreement running from April 15, 2026 through March 31, 2033, NCLH’s cruise brands will operate as Philadelphia’s exclusive homeport with an initial commitment of 41 sailings per year.

Cruise operations at the new terminal are projected to generate 2,185 direct and indirect jobs and approximately $300 million in annual economic output throughout the Commonwealth, supporting labor-intensive services that contribute to regional economic well-being.

“Philadelphia’s debut as our newest homeport marks a strategic milestone for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings and our three award-winning brands, Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises,” said Daniel Farkas, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Development Officer at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. “Together with PhilaPort, we’re expanding access to exceptional cruise experiences, connecting guests to world-class destinations with the convenience of sailing from a city rich in American history. As we prepare to launch in 2026, this terminal represents the next wave in our commitment to innovation, regional growth, and delivering an unmatched guest experience from ship to shore.”

Additional information regarding construction schedules, project milestones, and terminal amenities will be shared as development progresses. PhilaPort will release further details to keep the public, cruise passengers, and the travel industry informed as the terminal takes shape.

“The PhilaPort Cruise Terminal will help fulfill a key commitment in our strategic plan, Destination 2040, to make PhilaPort a multi-faceted port rather than one focused solely on cargo. This facility reflects the broader vision for both the city and the port, opening the door to a new chapter of tourism and leisure in Philadelphia,” said Michael Pearson, Chairman of the PhilaPort Board of Directors.

The establishment of the PhilaPort Cruise Terminal underscores the authority’s commitment to driving regional economic development and creating new opportunities for travelers. As the city prepares for America’s 250th anniversary, anticipation is building for a cruising experience that highlights Philadelphia’s maritime past and future. With unique facilities, convenient airport access, and an exciting lineup of destinations, the PhilaPort Cruise Terminal is positioned to become one of the East Coast’s most convenient and compelling places to begin a voyage. Passengers can expect more updates soon, along with an unforgettable new way to Cruise Philly First in 2026.

Copenhagen Malmö Port extends cruise season with Christmas calls and record off-season growth

Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) is entering a new era of year-round cruising, with a record number of calls outside the traditional summer season.

These developments are a major advantage for the destinations, as off-season calls allow guests the opportunity to explore local attractions, enjoy cultural experiences, and contribute to the regional economy throughout the year.

In Copenhagen, the festive season will be particularly vibrant with 10 Christmas cruise calls in December, featuring Santa Claus and Christmas music in collaboration with Wonderful Copenhagen. The new year begins early, with the first call arriving on January 2, 2026, and a total of five calls in January.

Visby is also making strides in extending its season, with two Christmas calls and a schedule that runs from April 1 all the way to December 23, 2026. This marks a significant achievement in bringing cruise tourism into the colder months, offering visitors the chance to enjoy the island’s unique charm year-round.

Malmö will host one Christmas call in December and a 2026 season starting already on March 15, positioning Malmö as an increasingly attractive destination for cruise lines and guests seeking new experiences in the Baltic region.

Across all CMP destinations, the number of calls between October 2025 and April 2026 will reach 88, compared to 64 in the same period last year—an increase of 37.5%. Copenhagen alone accounts for 67 calls, up 31.4% from last year.

"Cruise guests are increasingly looking for unique experiences beyond the traditional summer season, and our destinations deliver exactly that—festive atmospheres, cultural highlights, and authentic Nordic charm. It gives visitors the possibility to explore and enjoy what Copenhagen, Malmö, and Visby have to offer during the colder months," says Luis De Carvalho, Commercial Cruise Director of Copenhagen Malmö Port.
