The 50th General Assembly of MedCruise, the association of Mediterranean cruise ports, took place in Gibraltar from 14th to 17th June. Over 120 delegates – including representatives of members ports, cruise lines and the media – were present in the Assembly, taking part in discussions, business to business meetings and interactive workshops, Kalle Id reports.

Matters discussed included subjects such as recent changes in the governance structure of cruise ports in the Mediterranean (the creation of a new port authority system in Italy, the privatization of Piraeus port and the introduction of terminal operators in Cyprus), the perception of cruise activities and their impact in local communities, sustaining cruise growth in the Mediterranean, recent intiatives to create thematic and/or regional cruise port network to better promote less well known ports, and the improvements into port operations in the Mediterranean region.

We will be taking a more detailed look at the General Assembly in the next issue of Cruise Business Review.
