Royal Caribbean International’s Ovation of the Seas will remain overnight in the port of Tauranga in New Zealand as a number of passengers from the ship are believed to be missing after a volcanic eruption on White Island, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reports.

Master of the ship had made a broadcast about the situation. “He said guests and crew from the boat (sic) were on a tour to White Island where a volcano had erupted. He said they didn't have firm information, but that everyone should hold those affected and their families in their thoughts and prayers,” Donna Field, an ABC journalist on the ship, reported.

“A short time later, a roll call of names was played — presumably the missing. I can't remember how many, but it was a long list,” she added.

Five people are reported death with as many as 10 missing on the island, which is also known as Whakaari, media reports say.
